SILIBOND-990 is a pre-polymerized, reactive urethane resin with low viscosity. The product is a ready-to-use binder for dry sands and grit. The resin is completely lightfast, making it perfect as a binder for pure white sands made of marble, granite, and similar light-colored aggregates!
SILIBOND S-990 is an ideal binder for water-permeable, highly decorative joint mortars made from coarse sands, as well as for decorative stone carpets made of marble, granite granulates, or colored quartz.
SILIBOND-990 cures through reaction with the moisture naturally present in the air.
The mineral aggregates used must be dry. For water-permeable mortars (drainage mortars), the aggregates should not contain any fine dust and should be sufficiently coarse.
The binder requirement for water-permeable joint mortars or sand carpets is low. It depends on the particle size distribution and grain shape of the aggregates and the desired strength. For a typical high-strength drainage mortar, sands with grain sizes between 0.2 and 0.7 mm are recommended.
An ideal ratio is 3 to 5% S-990 binder to 100 parts aggregate, depending on the grain distribution (and thus the surface area) of the aggregates. A binder content that is too high can lead to curing issues and even cause blistering, while a binder content that is too low will inevitably reduce the mechanical strength of the cured mortar.
To prepare the mortar, the binder is mixed homogeneously with the aggregates. It is advisable to use forced-action mixers. Conventional free-fall mixers for cement mortar are not suitable. The mixing time itself is short but depends on the performance of the mixer used. Ready-to-use mixtures are only slightly damp. They are installed immediately, are not sticky, and are easy to level, smooth, and compact. Mortars made from SILIBOND S-990 can also be installed at low temperatures. Compared to epoxy resin mortars, they still cure perfectly under these conditions, which are typically difficult for reactive resins.

SILIBOND S-990 is not flammable, but it is combustible. The product should be protected from fire or radiant heat, stored in a cool, dry place, and kept out of reach of children and unauthorized third parties.
Opened containers must be tightly resealed immediately after use and consumed as soon as possible. S-990 contains isocyanates and is reactive.
