Colored pigmented epoxy coating for damp substrates
EPW-857 is a water-emulsified, colored pigmented 2-component system based on a special epoxy resin and hardener compound. The product is recommended as an abrasion-resistant, chemically resistant, and decorative protective coating for all mineral surfaces as well as mastic asphalt.
Like all SILOX EPW grades, EPW-857 can be diluted with water. The coating is characterized by excellent adhesion - even on damp substrates.
Cured coatings made of SILOX-857 are not vapor-tight; therefore, the drying of treated concrete surfaces or water vapor diffusion from the substrate is not significantly hindered, and adhesion problems, blistering, or similar damage caused by water acting on the coating-substrate interface cannot occur.
Colored protective coatings for concrete surfaces in industry, sewage treatment plants, as well as for garage and basement floors and similar application areas. Durable protective coatings for walls that must be frequently decontaminated or cleaned with high-pressure water or steam jets, e.g., in tunnels, in the food processing industry, etc.
EPW-857 consists of two components, which must be thoroughly mixed in a mixing ratio of 2:1 before application. The mixture can then be diluted with clean water if necessary to adjust the brushing or spraying viscosity. When using spraying equipment, ensure that aerosols (spray mist) – especially those generated when spraying with high-pressure (airless) equipment – do not contaminate adjacent components. The quality of the dried coating films is so high that such contamination can hardly be removed.
Due to the cross-linking reaction of the epoxy binder that begins immediately after mixing the components, the pot life of the mixtures of the EPW-857 components is naturally limited. Higher temperatures additionally accelerate the setting reaction. Since the end of the pot life of water-emulsified epoxy systems of this type is not recognizable by the typical increase in the viscosity of the mixture, this property must be carefully observed. To avoid errors, it is recommended to mix only as much material as can be easily applied within a reasonable amount of time.
The substrates must be clean and free of dust and other substances that have a separating effect. They must have sufficient load-bearing capacity or be pre-treated with a non-pigmented primer with sufficient penetration. Please observe the relevant technical rules for painting and coating work (e.g., DIN 18363).
Consumption naturally depends on the roughness and absorbency of the concrete. For machine-smoothed concrete floors and smooth shuttered concrete surfaces, consumption values of approx. 150 - 300 g/m2 per application are to be expected, depending on the application method.
Machines and tools can be cleaned with water supplemented with a standard wetting agent (dishwashing detergent). It is advisable to use hot water for this purpose.
To reliably prevent valves and delivery pistons in spray machines from sticking, we recommend flushing the equipment with water, then additionally flushing it with our safety solvent HydroSolv-520, and finally filling it with HydroMoll 522 care agent for storage preservation.
Contamination from cured material is difficult to remove; we therefore recommend protecting adjacent components by masking and covering them and always removing unavoidable contamination immediately.
