Transparent epoxy impregnating sealer for damp substrates SILOX Impregnating Sealer EPW-856 is a water-emulsified 2-component system based on a special epoxy resin and hardener compound. EPW-856 can be used to treat concrete surfaces by impregnation or sealing, significantly improving their performance characteristics. EPW-856 is also recommended as a primer and bonding agent under color-pigmented EP coatings using SILOX-EPW-857. Like all SILOX EPW grades, EPW-856 can be diluted with water. The resin is characterized by excellent adhesion - even on damp substrates.

Cured impregnations and sealers with SILOX-856 are not vapor-tight; therefore, the drying of treated concrete surfaces is not significantly hindered, and adhesion problems, blistering, or similar phenomena caused by the effect of water on the coating-to-substrate interface cannot occur. EPW-856 consists of two components that must be thoroughly mixed in a 2:1 ratio before processing. If necessary, this mixture can be further diluted with clean water to adjust the brushing or spraying viscosity.

When using spraying equipment, care must be taken to ensure that the aerosols (spray mist) created - especially when spraying with high-pressure (airless) equipment - do not contaminate adjacent components. The quality of the dried coating films is so high that such contamination can hardly be removed. Due to the cross-linking reaction of the epoxy resin that begins immediately after mixing the components, the pot life of mixtures made from EPW 856 components is naturally limited. Higher temperatures additionally accelerate the setting reaction, as with all 2-component systems. Since the end of the pot life in water-emulsified epoxy systems is not recognizable by the typical increase in the mixture's viscosity, the pot life must be strictly monitored and adhered to. To avoid errors, it is recommended to always mix only as much material as can be easily processed within a manageable amount of time. The substrates must be clean, free of dust and other contaminants that could act as a release agent, and sufficiently load-bearing.

Please also observe the relevant technical standards for painting and coating work (e.g., DIN 18363 in Germany) and the ARCAN instruction sheet for the processing of SILOX-EPW products. Consumption naturally depends on the roughness and absorbency of the concrete. For machine-smoothed concrete floors and smooth-shuttered concrete surfaces, consumption values of approx. 100 - 200 g/m² per application are to be expected, depending on the application method. Machines and tools can be cleaned with water with the addition of a commercially available wetting agent (dishwashing detergent). It is advisable to use hot water for this purpose. To safely prevent valves and delivery pistons in spraying units from sticking, we recommend flushing the equipment with water, then additionally flushing with our safety solvent HydroSolv-520, and finally filling with the maintenance agent HydroMoll-522 for storage preservation. Contamination by cured material is difficult to remove; therefore, we recommend protecting adjacent components by masking and covering them and always removing unavoidable spills immediately.
