Special coloring for water basins - Silox 863 is a universal sealing and coating compound for all cement-bound building materials. Silox 863 is absolutely watertight yet vapor-permeable, can be applied to damp substrates, and withstands high water pressure. Silox 863 is sag-resistant and very tacky, making it easy to work with even on uneven walls with deep surface textures or overhead. Silox 863 adheres excellently to damp, mineral substrates and metals. If the substrate is clean and load-bearing, no special primers or base coats are necessary. Voids and pore-free coatings are absolutely liquid-tight yet vapor-permeable. Its excellent mechanical properties (hardness, abrasion resistance) also make it suitable for sealing floor surfaces - e.g., in basements and underground parking garages. Silox 863 can also be used for reprofiling damaged concrete surfaces, wet-on-wet, as a bonding bridge between old and new concrete, as an adhesive for natural and artificial stone, as an anchor mortar, and for similar applications.
Substrate requirements
The substrate must be clean and free of separating substances or coatings. Mineral substrates must be sufficiently firm and load-bearing; the tensile strength should not fall below 1.5 N/mm² across the entire surface. Laitance layers on concrete and screed must be removed, and voids and pores must be opened. Iron and steel must be descaled to a bright metallic finish (SA 2½); mill scale and rust must be removed. Silox 863 is not suitable for plastics or substrates bonded with bitumen, asphalt, or tar.
Mixing
Empty component A completely into the container of component B and stir with a mixing machine until the color of the mixture is uniform and streak-free. Then, transfer the mixture as usual and stir thoroughly once more. Do not stir in air! The mixture stiffens significantly during the mixing process and becomes tacky and plastic. This effect is typical for the product and supports the exceptionally good sag resistance of Silox 863 on vertical surfaces and smooth substrates. By adding a little water - a maximum of 5% - the mixture becomes more fluid but remains sufficiently sag-resistant.
Application
Silox 863 is applied manually with standard tools (spatula, float, trowel, notched trowel) and can also be sprayed like thin-layer plasters or sealing slurries using light spraying machines (screw pumps). Depending on the spray pressure and the supporting air volume, this produces more or less finely textured, uniform surfaces.
Cleaning
Machines and tools are cleaned with water - ideally with a little dish soap added. Fresh contamination from the material should also be removed by washing with water.
Pot life
The pot life of a mixture that has not been additionally diluted with water is approx. 30 - 40 minutes at 20°C. In the case of strong air movement or direct sunlight, a type of skin may form on the surface of freshly applied layers sooner. Such areas should no longer be reworked by smoothing.
Subsequent coatings
Coatings made of Silox 863 can be recoated with themselves or with vapor-permeable EP sealers (SILOX-857) after a waiting period of 24 hours. For vapor-tight topcoats, a waiting period of 96 hours (at 20°C) is recommended.
Boundary conditions
The minimum temperature of the substrates should not fall below +9°C. The product must not be applied to glossy wet surfaces. To prevent "burning" on highly absorbent surfaces, dampen such areas before application or, better yet, prime them with Silox-856. Color: dark gray. Tested up to 7 bar negative water pressure!
