Liquid membrane for waterproofing concrete swimming pools Silox 909 Pool Mx is an elastic liquid membrane for concrete, used for waterproofing against water. The product consists of 2 components that are mixed together. It is simple and easy to apply.
Concrete components are waterproofed by applying a coating of Silox Pool 909 MX, which was specially developed for this application. Silox Pool 909 MX is an emulsion of a self-crosslinking, rubber-like polymer, acid-resistant silicate fillers, color pigments, additives, and water. After application, the product dries very quickly into a homogeneous, liquid-tight film (membrane) with very good resistance. Silox 909 MX waterproofing membranes are seamless and jointless, highly elastic, and bridge cracks in the substrate.
Silox 909 Pool is ready to use and has a thick, slightly thixotropic consistency. It can be applied like conventional emulsion paints by brushing, though spraying is better and more efficient. For secure protection of concrete surfaces, Silox membranes should be at least 600 µm / 0.6 mm thick (dry), corresponding to a wet coating thickness of 1 mm and a consumption of 1200 grams per m2. The coating should always be applied in two layers and in a cross-pattern to avoid voids. Using different colors for the two layers allows for easy monitoring of uniform application, which is why we recommend always working with "two colors". The substrate must be load-bearing, clean, and free of all separating substances. For concrete, surface cavities, air pores, cracks wider than 0.1 mm, breakouts, etc., must be repaired. UP Stone Filler 1013 is particularly well-suited for this work. Masonry surfaces must be clean and fully pointed, or (for greater security) they must be plastered smooth* or covered with an elastic sealing slurry*. * Cement plaster of mortar group III, appropriately treated with SILEX-956 * SILEX-947 (highly elastic organo-mineral sealing slurry) We recommend priming new, smooth-formed concrete or plaster surfaces with a bonding agent. For this, we recommend Silox EPW-856; for simpler applications, DuroFlex 900-P Primer is suitable. Always prime highly absorbent substrates to prevent the coating from burning. If necessary, Silox 909 can be diluted with water (up to 10%, e.g., to adjust spray viscosity). To improve abrasion resistance and provide a non-slip surface, either sharp-washed quartz sand (grain size e.g., 0.3 - 0.6 mm) can be mixed into the first DuroFlex coating, or the freshly applied coating can be blinded with it. Silox 909 must not be applied at temperatures below 7°C, in rain, or in extremely high humidity. Intermediate layers must be completely dry before applying the topcoat to ensure that no drying cracks form in the surface of the coating due to tension. The primer must also be completely dry before applying the subsequent coating. Construction joints – e.g., at floor-to-wall connections or joint gaps in precast concrete components – can be additionally secured by embedding HydroFlex 275, a special joint tape, to absorb larger movements in the substrate. The joint tape is adhered before coating and then covered with the waterproofing membrane. For substrates at high risk of cracking, it is possible to embed standard glass or textile fiber reinforcement fleeces into the membrane for reinforcement without difficulty.
