HydroSeal 355 is a PUR-based swelling paste, also referred to as a "swelling tape in a tube." It is highly elastic and water-swellable.
HydroSeal 355 is a hydro-active setting sealant. Once cured, the product absorbs water and increases in volume. HydroSeal 355 consists of a special polyurethane rubber developed by ARCAN.
When cured, HydroSeal is rubber-elastic, with very good mechanical strength and excellent adhesion to both wet and dry concrete and metal. Upon contact with water, HydroSeal 355 swells in proportion to the amount of water absorbed. HydroSeal 355 is used to simply and very efficiently seal construction and expansion joints, pipe penetrations, and similar problem areas in structures.
Due to the swelling process and the resulting swelling pressure, seals made of HydroSeal 355 quickly adapt even to subsequent changes in joint cross-sections. Joint seals made of HydroSeal 355 are therefore—like many swellable ARCAN products—"self-healing."
HydroSeal 355 is used wherever water must be prevented from penetrating a structure. Application directly from the cartridge is simple. The soft, pasty, yet stable compound is very easy to process with any standard caulking gun.
Area of application
- Sealing of wall penetrations (pipes, cables, etc.) in areas of structures in contact with the ground.
- Functionally reliable and easy-to-install seals in construction and casting joints—as a "swelling tape from a cartridge."
- Joint sealing for precast concrete elements, pipes, and segments in earthworks and hydraulic engineering.
- Adhesive and leveling compound for swelling joint tapes—these are typical applications for this product.
HydroSeal 355 adheres excellently to almost all dry and matte-damp substrates that are free of grease and dust. Adhesion is limited on certain plastics (olefins such as PE or PP, copolymers). Since plastics are difficult for the layperson to identify, preliminary tests are always recommended when using plastics as a substrate.
To accelerate the curing process, it may be useful to dampen mineral substrates (concrete, stone, etc.) before application. However, for good adhesion of 355 to the substrate, the surfaces must not be glistening wet.
A typical application for HydroSeal 355 is also the renovation of leaking expansion joints, e.g., in cases of peripheral or damaged joint tapes and pipe penetrations.
