DuroFlex M 900 - Liquid membrane for sealing concrete and screed

Liquid foil for waterproofing concrete  DuroFlex - 900M is a highly efficient protective coating for concrete against the aggressive components of silage. The product consists of only one component and is easy and trouble-free to apply.

Silage – green fodder prepared by fermentation – is produced by the fermentation of plants in the absence of air. Fermentation is a form of lactic acid fermentation. Unavoidable by-products of this process are acidic, aqueous leachates that contain lactic acid, but also butyric acid and acetic acid. These organic acids are extremely aggressive; they attack concrete surfaces and destroy them upon prolonged contact. The leachate escaping from silage silos also contaminates the groundwater. By coating with DuroFlex-900M, which was specially developed for this application, concrete components are safely protected and sealed against silage runoff. DuroFlex-900M is an emulsion of a self-crosslinking, rubber-like polymer, acid-resistant silicate fillers, color pigments, additives, and water. After application, the product dries very quickly into a homogeneous, liquid-tight foil (membrane) with very good resistance to alkalis, acids, and weather influences. Sealing foils made of DuroFlex-900M are seamless and jointless, highly elastic, and bridge cracks in the substrate.

DuroFlex-900M is ready to use, with a thick, slightly thixotropic consistency. It can be applied like conventional dispersion paints, but it is better and more efficient to apply it by spraying. For reliable protection of concrete surfaces, DuroFlex membranes should be at least 600 µm / 0.6 mm thick (dry), corresponding to a wet coating thickness of 1 mm and a consumption of 1200 grams per m2. The coating should always be applied in two layers and in a cross-pattern to avoid defects. Different coloring of the two layers allows easy control over the even application of the coating; we therefore recommend always working in "two colors". The substrate must be load-bearing, clean, and free of all substances that could act as release agents. For concrete, voids, air pores in the surface, cracks over 0.1 mm wide, breakages, etc., must be repaired. UP Stone Filler 1013 is particularly suitable for this work. Masonry surfaces must be clean and fully jointed, or (for safety) either plastered smooth* or coated with an elastic sealing slurry*. * Cement plaster of mortar group III, expediently treated with SILEX-956 * SILEX-947 (highly elastic organomineral sealing slurry) It is recommended to prime new, smooth-formed concrete or plaster surfaces with an adhesive primer. For silage containers and similar demanding applications, we recommend Silox EPW-856; for simpler applications, DuroFlex 900-P Primer is suitable. Always prime highly absorbent substrates to prevent the coating from "burning" (drying too fast). If necessary, DuroFlex-900 M can be diluted with water (up to 10%, e.g., to adjust the spray viscosity). To improve abrasion resistance and for a non-slip surface, sharp-washed quartz sand – grain size e.g., 0.3 - 0.6 mm – can be mixed into the first DuroFlex coating or the freshly applied coating can be dusted with it. DuroFlex-900M must not be used at temperatures below 7°C, or in rain or extremely high humidity. Intermediate coats must be completely dry before applying the top coat to prevent dry cracks in the coating surface due to tension. Working joints – e.g., at floor-wall connections, butt joints in precast concrete parts – can be additionally secured by embedding HydroFlex 275, a special joint tape, to absorb larger movements in the substrate. The joint tape is glued on before coating and then covered with the sealing foil. For substrates heavily prone to cracks, it is possible to easily embed commercially available reinforcing fleece made of glass or textile fibers into the DuroFlex membrane for reinforcement.
