If the substrate is clean and sound, no special primers or base coats are necessary. Blowhole- and pore-free coatings are completely liquid-tight but remain breathable. Its excellent mechanical properties (hardness, abrasion resistance) also make it suitable for sealing floor surfaces, e.g., in basements and underground garages. \u003cstrong\u003eSilox 863\u003c\/strong\u003e can also be used for reprofiling damaged concrete surfaces (wet-on-wet), as a bonding agent between old and new concrete, as an adhesive for natural and artificial stone, as an anchor mortar, and for similar applications.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eSubstrate Requirements\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe substrate must be clean and free of contaminants or coatings that act as separating agents. Mineral substrates must be sufficiently firm and sound; the tensile strength should not fall below 1.5 N\/mm2 over the entire area. Laitance layers on concrete and screed must be removed, and blowholes and pores must be opened. Iron and steel must be derusted to a bright metal finish (SA 2½); scale and mill scale must be removed. \u003cstrong\u003eSilox 863\u003c\/strong\u003e is not suitable for plastics or substrates bonded with bitumen, asphalt, or tar.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eMixing\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEmpty component A completely into the container of component B and stir with a mixing machine until the color of the mixture is uniform and free of streaks. Then, transfer the mixture as usual and mix thoroughly once more. Do not stir in any air! The mixture stiffens significantly during the mixing process and becomes tacky and plastic. Fresh contamination from the material should also be removed by washing with water.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003ePot Life\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe pot life of a mixture not additionally diluted with water is approx. 30 - 40 minutes at 20°C. In strong air currents or direct sunlight, a type of skin formation may occur earlier on the surface of freshly applied layers. Such surfaces should not be reworked by smoothing afterwards.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eSubsequent Coatings\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCoatings made of Silox 863 can be recoated with themselves or with breathable EP sealers (SILOX-857) after a waiting period of 24 hours. For diffusion-tight topcoats, a waiting period of 96 hours (at 20°C) is recommended.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch4\u003eBoundary Conditions\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe minimum temperature of the substrates should not fall below +9°C. The product must not be applied to glossy wet substrates. To prevent \"burning\" on highly absorbent substrates, moisten such surfaces before application or, even better, prime with Silox-856.
