During application, the pore structure in the building material is filled with polysilicic acid in a two-phase reaction; subsequently, the siliconate condenses into a strongly hydrophobic polymethylsilicic acid. This hydrophobization permanently stops capillary water transport. Important: Even secondary pores that inevitably form in the (water-containing) polysilicic acid as the surfaces dry out are therefore hydrophobic and cannot transport water! HydroBloc SI 700 is based on a formulation of metal silicates and organosilicon compounds (siliconates) that has been tried and tested for years in international monument conservation and the preservation of historical buildings.
